The Tudors were a family that ruled England from 1485 to 1603. Henry VIII became the first Tudor king when he defeated Richard III of York in 1485. This ended the 30-year conflict called the Wars of the Roses. Henry VIII married Elizabeth of York to unite the two feuding sides. The Tudor dynasty produced the famous monarchs Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.
