Science Matters: Inclined Planes

Inclined planes can be found all around you. For example, a person rolling a wheelchair up or down a ramp is using an inclined plane. Moving ramps are another type of inclined plane. They can be used to load cargo onto airplanes, for example.
Inclined planes, or ramps, are sloping surfaces that connect a lower level to a higher level or the opposite. They make it easier to move objects between surfaces that have different heights.
